The question of whether there is equity in education arose when Mr. Saldivar's American Literature class read "Always Running" by Luis J. Rodriguez. Rodriguez talks about his educational experiences and obstacles to education due to the fact that he had to endure harsh times as a teenager. The lack of resources for the "underprivileged" kids caused them to lose the opportunity for an equal education. Rodriguez demonstrates the lack of resources in his school when he followed his father to the university and found classes that he was never exposed to before. However, the prejudices of teachers and the labels put on him by others, gave Rodriguez no access to these classes, thus minimizing his opportunities in his education. Our fifth period American Literature class decided to look into the possible factors that will ultimately decrease or take away students' chances in getting the fair education that they deserve. One factor that our group decided to explore was student based budgeting or per-student funding.
